FDA Approves Natroba Paraprofessional Head Lice Treatment

Different treatments for head lice have been sold, but many who lindane (HCH or BHC) has been toxic for general use. The FDA has approved Natroba paraprofessional for the treatment of head lice.


Natroba or spinosad, is a topical suspension using benzyl alcohol kill lice. Natroba will be available on prescription in the first round, but can be sold over the counter at a time. Natroba not recommended for children under four years, and especially not in infants.

Natroba should only be used on hair, avoid contact with skin and eyes. Natroba should, as with any drug is used according to doctor’s instructions. The usual advice to head lice treatments cons is that a product can not be used for more than three occasions. Side effects include redness and irritation of the skin and eyes.

Why is head lice so difficult to kill?

Head lice is contagious, blood-sucking parasites. Lice can spread to the whole class, nursery school or kindergarten, one day, only coats are hung next to children playing on or near the infected child. Lice do not respect people, they will eat any human blood and all the hair wash, clean or dirty. lice eggs are also called nits, which are cement, hair and scalp. These nits are very difficult to remove.

Why are some chemical head lice treatments no longer used?
